Competition Rules


1. Only one entry per person. (Can be typed or handwritten. Must be legible.)

2. Entries must be in English.

3. Poems can be on any subject or written in any style and there is no line limit.

4. Employees of Bonacia Ltd and members of their families or households are eligible to enter Poetry Rivals but are not eligible to be short-listed for the Top 100 or win any prizes.

5. You can use a pen name, however your actual name along with your postal address must be clearly written on the back of your entry.

6. You must state your age on your entry if you are under 18.

7. All eligible entries will be published. (Eligibility refers to the poem’s content and originality.)

8. Any Poetry Rivals publications will be for the family market, therefore the content must be appropriate. Poems received which are deemed inappropriate by the editor(s) will be put forward for an alternative publication, which may or may not offer a prize. The editors’ decision is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

9. Poets eligible for publication will receive notification in writing. (A copyright form will be provided asking for permission to publish the work and confirmation the work is the author’s own original writing. At this time authors will be invited to purchase a copy of the publication their work appears in. Ordering is not a condition of publication. No purchase is necessary.)

10. Bonacia Ltd will short-list the Top 50 under 18s and Top 50 adult poets who will be invited to attend the Poetry Rivals Poetry Slam. Poetry is subjective, therefore editor(s) will judge poems on their creativity, use of language, impact, originality, message and interest. Where appropriate the age of the poet will be taken into account. The editors’ decision is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

11. The short-listed poets will be required to read their poem out to the judges and audience at the Poetry Rivals Poetry Slam. The winners will be selected and announced at the Poetry Slam. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

12. To be eligible for a prize the short-listed entrants must attend the Poetry Rivals Poetry Slam. Under 18s will need to be accompanied by an adult (1 accompanying adult will be provided with free entry into the Poetry Rivals Poetry Slam). Finalists will be provided with £20 towards their expenses.



2011 Slam Final! 10/02/2012
All 100 finalists should have now received their letters of congratulations and an invitation to the slam final, however please check out our top 50 under 18s and top 50 over 18s just in case your letter  has been delayed!

This year’s slam final will take place on Saturday 21st April 2012, at The Burghley Club, Peterborough, PE1 2QA. The event will kick off with the under 18s slam starting at 3pm until 6pm, two champions will be crowned and awarded with the top prizes, laptops! The over 18s slam will start at 6:30pm until 9:30pm, with the three runners-up receiving cash prizes and the champion having the choice of a publishing contract with Bonacia Ltd or £1000!

Finalists are welcome to invite friends and family to the event but tickets must be purchased before the event because of capacity limits within the venue. Contact our customer services team on 01733 890099 or email info@poetryrivals.com to order tickets (£5 cost).


13. The prizes are: Under 18s category – one winner of a laptop. Adult (over 18s) category: one winner of a publishing contract with Bonacia Ltd. (There is no cash alternative to the prizes.)

14. The winners’ (one adult, one under 18) name, photo and poem will be used for publicity purposes.

15. By attending the final, you accept as part of the terms and conditions that your photo may be used for publicity purposes.

16. By entering Poetry Rivals you have accepted the Rules and Terms & Conditions of the competition.

17. Entries can be posted to Poetry Rivals, Coltsfoot Drive, Woodston, Peterborough PE2 9BF, or emailed to info@poetryrivals.com, or uploaded here.


Notes

Confirmation of delivery will be done automatically if your poem is emailed or uploaded. If you post your poem and require acknowledgement of receipt please include an S.A.E. Bonacia Ltd cannot confirm receipt of any entries by telephone.
